01 Overview

Some core systems, such as banking cores, insurance platforms and government interfaces, will not be replaced soon, and they still speak SOAP, fixed-width files or something older. We place a REST gateway in front of them that translates the protocol, renames obscure fields, and adds caching and circuit breakers so a slow backend cannot take your website down with it. New applications work against a documented API, and when the legacy system is finally retired, only the gateway has to change.
